I
ILE LE FOURCHE
5 miles off the coast of St. Barts lies Ile Forchue, pointing into the sky with its spectacular peaks! The highest of the five reaches 103 feet. The rocky sides of the hills are covered with sparse shrubs, grasses, and cacti. The island is in a Marine park, thus uninhabited and undeveloped. Therefore, while hiking along the peaks, you may encounter tortugas, many birds, and while snorkeling in the sheltered bay, you may see sea turtles and many fish. The bay is shaped as a horseshoe, hence the name; in fact, it is a flooded caldera of the ancient volcano.
Have an afternoon snorkel inside the volcano, climb to the top of one of the peaks, and take a panoramic photo of the Leeward Islands as the sun sets.
If you are there in the spring, look for humpback whales as they migrate south.
